Election Day Looms

As of this post, there is four days until the US has it's big election day.

sigh

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't stressed. Scared even. Ever since Project 2025 went public and it was dissected in every way imaginable. As a queer person, it's more than unnerving. It's terrifying. Seeing the constant updates via social media and a few political youtube channels I pay attention to, I have been on edge. I know a lot of people simply just, isolate themselves from political discourse and reporting. I just can't do that, what's gonna happen on election day is going to have a direct effect on me, as well as my friends and everybody else I care about.

There is a fascist knocking, the sheer amount of Americans that are gleefully cheering his arrival is dreadful, it's depressing. The amount of misinformation and disinformation thrown around by people as fact, hearing these people decry that the media is all untrustworthy and the only true source of facts is from a bunch of people who crave power and control themselves? It's exhausting when you try and dig deep into what is even going on. Though I summed it up on my bluesky, which you can click here to see my post.

Now I've already talked about this on and off bluesky. I know it's something a lot of my own friends get upset to hear. Not because they are the "no politics" types, but because of how exhausting and upsetting it has all become. In a way, I have become numb and desensitized to it all. During my whole time online, I was first exposed to political discourse way back on Facebook around 2013. I was around what was referred to "Leftbook". But the extreme rhetoric I saw was from an infamous group that went by Left vs Right. Looking back, the unhinged takes and views that seemed all about causing as much chaos and anger as possible now seem like they were made in today's social media spaces, ten years later. I still have screencaps saved on my phone of the most deranged takes I saw on there and it gives me chills on how much I see from these snippets of fringe mindsets and views from 2013-2014 now being retold and reworked by actual US politicians. I cannot emphasize how awful this is.

I'm seeing half my coworkers fly Trump flags and stickers on their cars as election day approaches. But these Trump supporters, I cannot understand how calm they are. How bad things will get if they can their "man" into office. How much they spout that he will fix everything, how he can wave away inflation but yet apply 100% tariffs on nearly everything not made in the US? Do people not know it's the us, the taxpayers that are at the receiving end of the increased costs in goods? How he will mass deport all those evil illegal migrants? With what money? Resources? People power? Because, when all those deemed "illegal" to live here are finally gone... then what? Who's to say the new administration won't just start putting a definition on what makes a citizen a "real American"? I don't even want to think about it, let alone the prospect of Trump appointing that ghoul Elon Musk as head of managing this country's finances. How much will Trump supporters love that administration when Social Security gets gutted? Or when public education is nearly killed off? What about Medicaid? Any sort of funding for public transport could be utterly wiped out. The irony of it all though? Elon supports people who despise electric vehicles. His own company Tesla, where the bulk of his assets and wealth lie, could be destroyed by his own hand.

I could go on and on. But I know I'm preaching to the choir here.

Get out and vote. Whether you can vote early, somehow get an absentee ballot in (or maybe you got one in already) or you roll the dice and go on election day itself. Go vote, our two options are not great. Believe me, I know. But at least one of them understands the fucking rule of law.

Stay safe, look out for one another. See ya next time.
